Butte Forest Plan and Forest Health Watershed Coordination
Butte County RCD received a 2019 Forest Health Watershed Coordinator grant from California's Department of Conservation. This grant funded BCRCD staff to develop several large-scale forest health grants, start the Butte PBA, and work on erosion control projects around the County. The watershed coordinator will also be responsible for developing the Butte Forest Plan, a document that spells out what "the next forest" should look like and how we can get there as a community. Based on collaboration with dozens of local groups and the best available science, this document can serve as the basis of a strategic plan for a Butte County forest health collaborative. It will help guide organizations and landowners in fire recovery, program development, ecological restoration, and forest management decisions across an area of about 900,000 acres.
